Amazon is an American technology services company that provides multinational services. Based in Seattle, Washington, Amazon focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in July 1994 in Bellevue, Washington and initially started as an online marketplace for books but later expanded to sell electronics, software, video games, apparel, furniture, food, toys, and jewelry. Amazon distributes downloads and streaming of video, music, audiobook through its Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, and Audible subsidiaries. A variety of subscriptions may be purchased from or through Amazon, including streaming services such as Sling or CuriosityStream and premium movie services such as HBO or Showtime. Amazon members may also choose to purchase live sporting events on a pay-per-view basis as well as be able to subscribe to sports packages such as NBA League Pass or NFL Red Zone as an add-on to their existing Amazon Prime subscription.
Pricing for subscriptions for third party services is set by the third party and will vary accordingly. Amazon offers Music Unlimited music streaming services for prices starting at $7.99 per month after a 30 day trial period, a children’s book subscription known as Prime Book Box for $19.99 per month, and a STEM-focused children’s subscription service known as STEM Club for various age groups for $19.99 per month.
