OnStar is a company owned by General Motors. It is a subscription-based communication service that is installed within vehicles. The service offers in-vehicle security, emergency services, hands-free calling, navigation, and remote diagnostics. The service was founded in 1996. The current Vice President of the company is Santiago Chamorro. Service is available for vehicles within the United States, Canada, China, Mexico, Europe, Brazil, and Argentina. The OnStar headquarters are located in Detroit, MI.
There are various OnStar features. The Automatic Crash Response feature automatically connects with an OnStar Advisor who will alert the authorities and call for help. The Emergency Service feature connects you to an Emergency-certified Advisor who will not only send help your way but also offer critical assistance until help arrives. If you find yourself on the side of the road with a flat tire, out of gas, or in need of a tow, the Roadside Assistance will assist you with getting help. The Crisis Assist feature will assist you in finding a safety point if you are in the middle of a natural disaster. If your vehicle is ever lost or stolen, the Stolen Vehicle Assistance will help you find your vehicle. The local authorities will then help you recover it. Turn-by-Turn Navigation helps you with finding directions.
The Remote Access subscription is $14.99 per month or $149.90 per year. The Unlimited Access has even more available features and is $39.99 per month. If you have a vehicle that is 2016 or later, you will have access to the Connected Access feature, which is free for qualifying make/models.
