Tidal is a music, podcast, and video streaming service that offers subscriptions for access to its library of content. Tidal has distribution agreements with multiple independent production labels and the largest three recording labels. The company states the service offers more than 60 million music tracks and 240,000 music videos on its platform. Tidal was launched in 2014 by Aspiro AB. Aspiro is based in Oslo, Norway, and was founded in 1998 by Jorgen Adolfsson, Christer Mansson, and Klas Hallqvist. Currently, Aspiro is owned by Project Panther Bidco Ltd which is owned by rapper and businessman Jay-Z. Tidal offers the ability to download songs for offline listening, personalized playlists based on a member’s listening history, and exclusive content from artists.
Tidal memberships are available in 2 tiers with multiple plans in each tier. Premium memberships offer premium sound quality, exclusive music, events and videos, and other content with a 30 day free trial to the service. A standard premium membership is available for $9.99 per month, with a family premium membership available for up to 5 members for $14.99 per month, student memberships available to verified students for $4.99 per month, and military memberships available to verified service members for $5.99 per month. HiFi memberships offer increased sound quality. Personal HiFi memberships are available for $19.99 per month, family memberships for $29.99 per month, student HiFi memberships for $9.99 and military memberships in this tier for $11.99 per month. All memberships include the 30-day free trial and have no minimum commitment so they are eligible to be cancelled at any time.
